Working at the bank was great. Not always super rewarding but still great. Being needed is nice. Bringing home the dough and being the provider is nice. Being in the loop is nice. Very nice. Essential actually.
Losing the job at the bank was not great. Not super scary but still not great. Had hopes for a while that something else would introduce itself but it didn’t. En contraire, as the french banker says.
Everything good in life excused itself. Credit disappeared first. House loans did not. Wife and children did. As did bowling team, Rotary brothers and congregation. Unanswered faith did not. Hope, self esteem and confidence did. The blue convertible did. Despair did not. Teeth did. Ulcer did not.
Within half a year the loop consisted of new affiliates, all with an acronym diagnosis. And drugs. And insomnia.
Did set up new living quarters under the driveway. Bit on the chilly side in winter but nice and cool during summer. Not far from the old job actually. Sometimes I go over there and look at myself in the mirroring windows.
